Herpes Prevention Tips

Posted on 23 February 2011

When you get herpes, you won’t be able to treat it. Although there are certain medications that take care of the symptoms of herpes, these medicines can’t treat the disease itself. Because of this, prevention is definitely a must. Here are a few herpes prevention tips:

1) Know your sexual partner – one of the main ways that herpes gets transmitted is via sexual contact. Like any other STD, herpes can be prevented simply by keeping a leash on your sexual activities.

Make sure that your sexual partner does not have herpes. Don’t sleep with anyone you don’t know that well. A monogamous relationship is recommended for herpes prevention.

2) Use a condom – a condom can reduce the risk of contracting genital herpes significantly. As long as no infected areas are exposed, herpes won’t be a problem. If you have doubts about your sexual partner, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

3) Wash your hands often- herpes isn’t just transmitted through sexual contact; sometimes, people can get it simply from objects that other people have touched. Washing your hands often is the single best thing you can do to prevent any type of illness.

4) Lead a healthy life – make sure that your immune system is always up and running. By leading a healthy lifestyle and eating a balanced diet, you can minimize the risk of you contracting herpes or indeed, any sort of illness.

Remember that herpes prevention doesn’t require you to purchase expensive medicine and perform tedious tasks. The beauty of prevention is that it can be composed of such simple and seemingly trivial things.

However, that’s what also makes it hard. People find that because of the triviality of the tasks involved in herpes prevention, the same tasks might often be forgotten. So how do you learn how to remember them?

Well, the best way is to make it a habit. If you can’t remember these tips as associated with herpes, it’s probably because the threat doesn’t seem that immediate to you.

By performing these tasks just because you are used to them, you would be able to engage in herpes prevention without even realizing it!
